September is arguably the best month to travel to Greece, with generally delightful weather, warm waters, light crowds, lower prices ... the list goes on and on. And with many airlines threatening big jumps in prices after mid-September, this month may be an especially good one to drop everything and go to Greece.
Parthenon Protesters Sing on Sunday
Saturday August 30, 2008
Traveling in Greece right now? If you're visiting the
Parthenon on Sunday, August 31st, you may see a rare sight - a group of classical religionists singing hymns to
Athena and
protesting the move of artifacts from the museum on the Acropolis to their new home in the ultra-modern
New Acropolis Museum at the base of the hill.

Mine Proves to be Just Fine
Saturday August 30, 2008
University of Thessaloniki excavators had a scare recently when they unearthed
what they thought was a land mine; instead, it turned out to be a large copper vessel containing a golden wreath and a mystery, eKathimerini reported. The new find adds to the richness of treasures found in the Aegae or Aigai area, the homeland of Alexander's family.

Got Land in Greece? Registration Extended
Tuesday August 26, 2008
As I predicted a few months ago, Greece has extended the deadline to register property with the new national registry system until October 31st - and I expect another extension after that, though Environment and Public Works Minister Giorgos Souflas insists there will be no more extensions.
In any case, please don't wait. The processing offices have been overwhelmed and only about a fifth of the properties have been registered so far. Remember, it doesn't matter if you've owned that family farm for literally centuries - it still needs to be registered now as Greece attempts to come into line with EU-mandated land registration practices.
